Notcutts Garden Centres: Rake Out Your Old Tools
Our client, Notcutts Garden Centres, won Best Retail Promotion and the Award for Excellence in Horticulture in the
Horticulture Week 2005 Awards for a campaign we created and organised.
Brief: Promote Notcutts Garden Centres through the local media, enhance Notcutts' reputation as a socially
responsible company, and achieve successful promotion of products resulting in increased sales.
Action: By encouraging customers to donate their old tools and rewarding them by offering a 20% discount on new
tools, customers had the incentive to simultaneously help others whilst spending money. DSH approached Feed the Children
International (UK), a small charity that helps build communities in Africa, who enabled the delivery of tools to some of
the poorest parts of the world.
Result: During the campaign, sales of tools were up by 50% on the previous year and customers redeemed 432 vouchers.
The collected tools filled 60 pallets, which were successfully shipped to Africa.
Feedback: The Horticulture Week Awards judges called the promotion "an inspiration that was very clear and well
presented". Customer feedback was extremely positive - another successfully nurtured reputation working wonders for
business.
